Computed RadiographyComputed radiography enables x-ray images to be obtained digitally, without the use of film. These digital images provide exquisite detail and allow for improved, more accurate diagnoses. Computed radiography decreases patient waiting time since the physicians will have almost instantaneous access to images -- there is no film to process. Furthermore, the technology limits patients x-ray exposure to the absolute minimum. Most important, patients have the security of knowing that PBMC physicians can access radiological images via computer from their home or office - or from anywhere in the world where there is Internet access -- via the Hospital's secure website. Within minutes of taking a digital x-ray, the emergency room staff can, for example, consult with an orthopedist at home, who can order treatment to begin immediately, even before he or she gets to the hospital. Angiography/Interventional RadiologyPeconic Bay Medical Center's recently renovated angiography suite contains state-of-the-art equipment to diagnose and treat diseases of the arteries and many other conditions. Angiography is part of a larger subspecialty of radiology called interventional radiology. The interventional radiologist utilizes angiography to visualize the inside of the blood vessels. Interventional radiologists also perform a wide variety of other "non-vascular" procedures. For example, in the case of an infected kidney, a small catheter can be inserted to drain the infection and avoid surgery. With uncontrolled internal bleeding, the interventional radiologist will use a catheter to locate the site of hemorrhage, then treat it through a small incision in the groin. Interventional radiology is on the forefront of medical innovation and has pioneered many minimally invasive procedures that improve patient health and quality of care. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)Magnetic resonance imaging is a painless technology that offers a detailed view inside the body. Using a large magnet, radio waves, and a computer, it can produce two- or three-dimensional images without using X-rays. In many instances, MRI has become the standard for imaging the brain, spine, and musculoskeletal system. Peconic Bay Medical Center utilizes a Siemens Mid-field 1.0T magnet to perform its MRI services, which produces excellent clinical images of all body parts, especially neurological and musculoskeletal anatomy, in a very efficient time frame. It also provides excellent imaging of the cerebral and carotid blood vessels through its Angiography (MRA) capabilities Other Radiological ServicesPeconic Bay Medical Center offer a range of other radiological procedure - including CAT (Computed Axial Tomography) scans, sonograms, and mammography. Most of these procedures can be accessed online by physicians, providing patients with faster, more effective care. |
