Auxiliary volunteers are an essential part of the PBMC team, giving more than 22,000 hours annually of service to a variety of areas, including greeting patients and visitors at the front desk and in the Emergency Care Center, assisting on the patient care units and performing clerical work.
Every year one outstanding volunteer has been given the honor of receiving the Jeanne Shaffery Lifetime Achievement Award of Excellence. This year that award went to Marion Harrison. Marion has been a dedicated volunteer since 1994. Her invaluable service in the Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is welcomed and appreciated by staff and patients. Ms. Harrison embodies the word caring and her love for visiting with the patients is expressed in her smile and the time she gives to each patient.
In addition to the numerous hours of service the Auxiliary gives to the hospital, they are also key in raising funds to help Peconic Bay Medical Center purchase new equipment and to develop and implement new programs. As part of their commitment of a $2 million pledge over the next 7 years toward the facility's capital projects, Peconic Bay Medical Center's Auxiliary presented Andrew J. Mitchell, President & CEO of Peconic Bay Medical Center and Jesse R. Goodale III, Chairman of Peconic Bay Medical Center Board of Directors, with a check for $300,000.
Anyone interested in becoming a hospital volunteer can call Lynne LaGrua, Director of Volunteer Services at 631-548-6021.

On January 25th Westhampton Beach High School students had the unique opportunity to learn firsthand about the da Vinci Surgical® System from Dr. Hannah Ortiz, FACOG, FACS and Director of Peconic Bay Medical Center's Gynecologic Oncology Robotic Surgery Program.
The da Vinci system combines computer and robotic technologies to take surgical treatment to the next level by enabling doctors to perform delicate robot-assisted surgery with smaller incisions. The result is less pain, less blood loss and less scarring, lower risk of infection, faster recovery and a shorter hospital stay. Peconic Bay Medical Center is one of only 2 hospitals on the east end that uses the da Vinci to perform minimally invasive surgical procedures.
