RIVERHEAD, NY – JABS, located in Cutchogue, has raised $5,445 toward a goal of $30,000. Through a partnership with the Mattituck Lions and Peconic Bay Medical Center, JABS will help bring Project Fit America to the North Fork: Greenport and Cutchogue East Elementary schools.

Project Fit America is a national non-profit that provides schools with the equipment, curriculum and guidance needed to reduce the onset of childhood obesity and diabetes. In 2013 Project Fit America launched in all five public elementary schools in Riverhead, the first program in New York State. The Riverhead program has been tremendously successfully, helping the school district to win the inaugural Suffolk County Community Health Improvement Award in 2014.

“We are thankful and appreciate the donations we have received so far! We are planning some additional fundraisers to bring this amazing program to the kids of our community,” said Jill Schroeder, owner of JABS and East End Women’s Network “Woman of the Year 2014.”

Jill believes strongly in community engagement and philanthropy.  JABS has raised money for a variety of causes including heart health, breast cancer awareness and animal shelters. In 2015 one of the trainers at JABS, Jason Leonard, ran the NYC Marathon for Peconic Bay Medical Center’s Team Wellness raising $4,402. Further support to bring Project Fit America to the North Fork can be donated here: https://www.crowdrise.com/jabssupportsprojectf/fundraiser

“We are extremely proud of this community effort,” said Stacey Cook, Executive Director of Project Fit America. “Every child deserves to grow up active, fit and healthy. This project will impact hundreds of kids for years and years.”
